BAH Rates Basic Allowance for Housing
The 2021 BAH increase became effective January 1st, 2021. Servicemembers will begin to see an increase in their wages beginning on January 15, 2021. Actual BAH increases will differ based the location you reside in.
BAH is covered for 95% of the time, and service members pay the rest out-of-pocket. In 2021, BAH rates will also include an out-of-pocket cost that is dependent on the class and dependencies. It could vary between $70 and $158 monthly.
2022 BAH Housing Rates Basic Allowance
The 2022 Basic Housing Allowance Rates (BAH), increase is 2.7 percent. This is an average rate increase across all areas. The rates will be at the local level based on the current study of the rental housing market.
Based on the negotiation and passage between Congress and White House of the 2022 Defense Budget, the final BAH rate hikes can be modified.
The 2022 BAH increases will become effective on January 1st, 2022. Service members will be notified of the increase in their pay on January 15, 2022. BAH increases will vary by location.
BAH will cover 95% of housing expenses, while the service members must pay the remaining 5% out-of-pocket. The BAH 2022 rates for out of expense expenses will vary based on the grade and dependents.
